An irresistible attacking performance saw Fisher romp to a 5-0 victory over relegation threatened Hythe Town at St Pauls, moving up to second spot in the SCEFL Premier Division table in the process.
Charles Yiadom Konadu came back into starting line-up after missing the London Senior Cup game in midweek against Dulwich Hamlet replacing Nas Crespo and a late switch during the warm-up saw Don Macaulay drop to the bench with a return for Adejola Lahan.
Fisher started the game on fire and on three minutes took the lead having won a free kick on the left. Ton Jones swung in a devilish free kick that skimmed off the back of the stooping Adejola Lahan and nestled into the far corner for the perfect start to the game. A minute later Fisher had doubled the lead with a fine move down the right. Festos Kamara combined well with Armani Jordan Martin who escaped down the flank and then sent in a low cross that Jones neatly back flicked into the path of Lorenzo Duncan and whilst the left backs initial effort came back off the inside of the far post he had the presence of mind to follow up and eagerly slammed the loose ball into the roof of the net from two yards out for his seventeenth goal of the campaign. Duncan is clearly a disciple of the Dutch 1970s total football philosophy, having notched twelve of those goals whilst playing at left back, all from open play and all from inside the penalty area!
Hythe were shell shocked but set about trying to get back into the game. Isaac Ogunseri made a brave smothering save racing off his line to blunt Gil Carvalho’s run into the box in a rare sight of goal for the Hythe forwards. However, the game was only going one way and Yiadom-Konadu almost added a third after some neat footwork opened space for a chipped effort that just failed to curl inside the far corner. Jack Gibbons then went on a typical mazy run forward and having worked space inside the box elected to curl the ball for the top corner with the outside of his right boot only to see it drift just wide when a left footed lash may have worked better if less aesthetically pleasing.
Having been in total control throughout the first half and looking a constant threat going forward it was no surprise that just two minutes into the second spell Fisher had their third. Kozak sprinted down the left wing and getting level with the penalty spot drove in a low cross that saw Tom Jones stretch to slot the ball home at the near post despite the efforts of two covering defenders. Fisher continues to press with Jones coming to the fore and he didn’t quite get enough on a low shot to trouble the keeper but just before the hour mark got his second and Fisher’s fourth, with a stunning goal. Kozak’s smart thinking saw him take a quick throw on the left having spotted Jones run down the flank. If Duncan’s goal was prime Holland 1974 then this was prime England and Gascoigne 1996 as with his first touch tight on the touchline he nutmegged his marker to take the ball inside before cutting in past another defender and then sending a dipping volley over the keeper into the far corner.
The strength of Fisher’s bench then allowed them to rest payers, with Sha’mar Lawson on for Yiadom Konadu continuing the impressive work in midfield spraying the ball out to flanks with pace and precision and Rafael Garcia and Eden Deh on for Jones and Martin giving the Hythe back line no less cause for concern with some powerful runs down either wing. Garcia saw a powerful shot saved low down having cut inside and Kozak continued to drive at the heart of the backline rewarded with a fifth late on when picking up the ball twenty five yards out, switching it onto his left and slamming the ball around the keeper for another goal of season contender.
Five up, Fisher continued their relentless pursuit of goals. Substitute Sonny Thwaytes Tylee almost joined in the goal of the season competition bringing a ball down on his chest and turning to volley in one movement thirty yards out with his dipping effort passing inches wide. A surging run from Garcia then saw him felled in the box in the closing minute but the keeper dived to his left to smoother the resulting spot kit and deny Garcia Fisher’s sixth.
