SCEFL Challenge Cup Second Round

Erith & Belvedere 3 - 2 Fisher
Tuesday 20 October 2015 - 19:45

Fisher slipped out of the Macron SCEFL Challenge Cup last night, falling victim to a 117th minute goal after a gutsy performance against a well organised Erith & Belvedere.
Despite Fisher looking vibrant and creating a few early chances, the Deres struck first as Enoch Akosah fired past debutant Fish shot stopper Ade Adeniyi in the 16th minute.
Four minutes later a fluent attacking move saw the ball fall for Max Rothwell, who fired home, with some help from the far post to level the scores. Fisher continued to show skill on the break with Tyrell McLeod-Bentley, Travis Gregory and Benga Ogunseye all performing well, creating some good chances while Emiliano Hysi (making his second Fisher debut) also enjoyed a good game, while debutant number three, Jack Martin, settled in to the back line and, alongside Gassimu Jalloh, did well to quell the Deres attack.
Minutes in to the second half, Denzil Gayle broke down the left wing and took fall advantage of a poor touch by Adeniyi to put his side 2-1 ahead.
Erith had to defend well as the Fish continued to press forward. Quentin Conteh, Shelton Goooden and Alfie Roche were introduced midway through the second half to freshen up the frontline. Harrison’s tactical masterpiece paid off in the dying minutes, as a superb ball through split the Deres backline and allowed Travis Gregory to slot home the equalising goal.
In extra time Veejay Miller and Alfie Roche linked well down the left wing, continuing to create chances as the Deres began to tire. The hosts broke forward but the attack was cut short as the striker on the ball pulled up injured, allowing Rob Curtis to recover and release the frontline with a basic ball over the top. With three strikers against the goalkeeper and one defender, the Fish looked certain to take the lead, before the referee stopped play to allow the injured Deres attack to receive treatment.
The Deres took advantage of the lifeline they had been given, and new signing Ashley Robinson fired home his sides third goal, leaving the Fish just seconds to force a penalty shootout. One last push forward couldn’t find that goal and the referee brought the game to a close, with the Deres taking the win after 122 minutes.
