In Fisher’s penultimate game at the Champion Hill ground, their opposition were too strong and were able to hold on with 10 men for a comfortable win.
The game started lively enough as both teams were keen to build up a bit of momentum on the ball. Both preferring to play with the ball at their feet, there was a tough battle in midfield as neither side wanted to go without possession. This hard fought start kept the game from settling down for the first fifteen minutes of play. The best moment during this period from Fisher’s perspective was a steaming run from Shelton Gooden shortly after kickoff where he was able to force a corner. Shortly after, Quan found himself free in the box after a clever through ball, but was unfortunate to be flagged offside.
In the eighteenth minute Gooden again led the charge and was lining himself up for what seemed a certain goal when Corinthian’s Marcus Evans was able to beat Gooden to the ball and concede a corner.
It wasn’t long before the visitors took the lead as Corinthian’s Michael Hagan intercepted a loose pass from Robert Curtis and played Conor Johnson into the box. Attempting to disposes Johnson, Fisher’s Alfie Nunn was only able to get the player, who went down for an uncontroversial penalty. Corinthian’s Ryan Croucher converted from the spot and Fisher’s bad afternoon had begun.
A couple of bad tempered challenges from Corinthian culminated in a undisciplined, studs-up tackle on Chan Quan for which Harvey McMorrow was yellow carded.
Finding more space in Fisher’s third, Corinthian began probing and soon found a reward as Michael Hagan with plenty of time took a shot from outside the box and sent the ball bouncing past Ade Adeniyi to double their lead in the forty first minute.
In the fifty fifth minute, Fisher’s main attacking threat of the afternoon, Shelton Gooden, was able to steal the ball off the foot of a Corinthian defender in his own box, but charging at full pelt, he was unable to beat the keeper to the loose ball. A minute later, Chan placed a beautiful shot which left the keeper beat and the crowd holding their breath only to hear the ding as the ball clipped the post and went out.
For much of the rest of the game, Fisher were wasteful in attacking possession as frustration led to more long passes and failing to get to second balls.
With twelve minutes left on the clock, Corinthian’s McMorrow would see the results of his indiscipline as an incident off the ball led to his second yellow card and the visitors were down to 10 men. Unfortunately, Fisher were unable to press their man advantage and with a minute of normal time to go, Michael Hagan was again left with time on the ball and rolled the ball past Adeniyi for Corinthian’s third.
A fixture Fisher will be keen to forget as they head away next week to Cray Valley.
