Fisher’s disappointing form continued as they lost 4-1 at Church Road, though Adam Wadmore marked his return with a spectacular goal.
It was another below par performance from the Fish, and while there were times in the game where Fisher controlled possession, a lack of creativity and cutting edge meant that the Fish couldn’t turn those dominant periods into goals.
Whyteleafe started as he brighter side, and after a scramble was cleared Billy Hensman had to saved with his feet. At the other end, Marvin Alebiosu shot wide but then the home side took the lead. It was a messy goal, a scramble in the box again and via numerous deflections Paul Scott claimed the opener.
A setback for the Fish but the team rallied and looked the stronger side as the half wore on. Fisher couldn’t create any chances however and Whyteleafe doubled their lead with nine minutes to play in the half. Hensman, racing off his line in an attempt to clear, took out the Leafe striker Che Stadhart. There could be few arguments at the award of the penalty, and a yellow card, for the Fisher keeper. Ryan Maxwell despatched the penalty in clinical fashion.
After half-time, Fisher again had a spell where they looked the stronger side. Jordan Green, who had a tough task up-front against former Fish and giant of a defender Cedric Abraham, saw a shot saved. The Fish got back in the game through returning defender Adam Wadmore. Fisher worked the ball from left to right across the front-line, and it reached Wadmore thirty yards out on the right wing. He stepped inside and fired at goal with his left foot, a perfectly placed shot that Joe McLoughlin in the Leafe goal could only stand and watch as it clipped the far post and rebounded over the line.
That was to be the highlight of Fisher’s afternoon. Whyteleafe restored a two goal advantage as Michael Abnett was played through on goal and he chipped the on-rushing Hensman. Bryan Zepo made a first appearance of the season, and his presence up-front added an extra dimension to the Fisher attack, but the visitors couldn’t create any further chances.
Fisher’s misery was completed as a communicaiton breakdown late on led to an unfortunate Jordan Clark own goal. That gave the scoreline a gloss that didn’t quite reflect the overall balance of play, but the last two performances have left Firko and Gary Davies with plenty to ponder ahead of the weekend’s Macron Premier Division Cup clash with Deal Town.
