Fisher’s poor form continued on Saturday, as they lost to a side who started the day bottom of the table.
The Fish woke up for the last ten minutes of the game as they mounted a comeback attempt, but it was Greenwich Borough who deservedly went home with the points from this derby encounter.
It was a scrappy opening to the game, as Fisher bedded in a few new faces and Borough looked to attack the home side on the break. Danny Hunt had an opportunity that was well-saved by Borough keeper John Beale. At the other end, former Fish Kris Hollidge burst forward from right-back but his shot was smothered by Billy Hensman.
The sides went into halftime level at 0-0, but it was the visitors who started the second half the brighter as Mathieu Ramsamy ran at the heart of the Fisher defence direct from the kick-off. Another run by Ramsamy led to the first goal – the referee judged that he was tripped in the box despite vociferous protests from the Fisher defence that it was a clean tackle. Rob Depeaser sent Hensman the wrong way to give Greenwich Borough a 1-0 lead.
The Fish did not react well to the set back and it was not a surprise when Ramsamy got himself on the scoresheet on 64 minutes. Receiving the ball on the right of the Fisher box he cut inside and struck a low shot past Hensman and just inside the near post. A third came from Ashley Wright after Hensman had parried a Mike Burton shot – Wright had been left unmarked in the box and was left with a simple finish.
Fisher finally gave the healthy home crowd of 92 something to cheer about as young substitute Alex Ball latched on to an excellent ball from Hunt. Ball drove at goal and stroked an excellent finish past Beale for his first goal for the club, and first goal in senior football.
With 90 minutes on the clock, Fisher scored a second as Wadmore headed goalwards from a corner and the ball hit the net via a deflection. But there was to be no great comeback, though the Fish had one last chance to launch the ball into the box from a throw-in. Greenwich Borough managed to scramble the ball clear and hold on for the victory – one that they deserved.
