Pre Season Friendly

Fisher 2 - 0 Millwall XI
Saturday 10 July 2010 - 15:00

Fisher began their pre-season campaign in perfect fashion with a shock victory over a Millwall XI at Champion Hill
The Championship side rarely threatened a well-organised and extremely confident display from Fisher, who impressed with goals in either half from Mark Lewis and George Savage.
The day saw Fisher attain a new record attendance (as Fisher FC) as 244 supporters flocked to the stadium whilst soaking up the afternoon sun. This beat the club’s previous best of 222 against Beckenham Town last year.
Millwall fielded a youthful side with the team mainly consisting of players from their Under 18’s alongside younger senior-squad fringe players Connor McClaren and Liam Kingsmill partnering in defence.
Fisher also had an unfamiliar look as trialist Danny Young made his debut at the back wearing the number 6 shirt whilst another trialist in the form of ex-Croydon FC forward Dexter Babalola partnered Raphael Akala up front.
Fisher took the lead in bizarre fashion on the stroke of half-time as a seemingly routine clearance from young Millwall keeper Jamie Farmer ricocheted off Mark Lewis and into the empty net.
Wholesale changes for Millwall at half-time made the second half a more attacking and end to end affair with both sides having chances to score.
Toby Alibi had an effort on the hour mark that was unfortunate to hit the woodwork as Millwall began to press for the equalizer.
It was Fisher however that doubled the lead late on despite the increasing pressure from the away side.
George Savage collected the ball on the edge of the area and let fly with a spectacular 18 yard drive that flew past the sprawling substitute keeper Luke Bartlett and into the corner of the net to effectively end the contest with 10 minutes still to play.
The win was the perfect start to Fisher’s pre-season campaign and they should go into next Wednesday’s tie with Dagenham & Redbridge full of confidence.
Fisher Football Club would like to put on record their thanks to Andy Ambler, Kenny Jackett, Scott Fitzgerald and all at Millwall FC for agreeing to the fixture and would like to wish them every success for the coming season.
