Fisher’s Vase dreams were ended by a bright and talented Warlingham side, who belied their Step 6 status to run out deserved winners at Champion Hill.
Fisher started brightly and dominated the early exchanges. Only a goalline clearance stopped the Fish from taking the lead as Callum Roberts met a corner at the far post, and Rob Hughes fizzed a free kick just wide.
However, on 15 minutes a misplaced pass from Fisher keeper Adam Lisney gave George Gledhill a chance he couldn’t miss, and he tucked the ball away to give Warlingham the lead.
Fisher continued to see the majority of the ball, but some useful approach play was let down by poor decision-making in the final third.
Warlingham continued to hit Fisher on the break with left winger Felix Dean giving Roberts a torrid time. Lee Jansen netted a second for Warlingham just before halftime, finishing from a couple of yards out as Fisher’s defence went to sleep.
Fisher pressed in the second half and pulled a goal back with a magnificent lob from Rafa Akala, but Warlingham continued to defend well and looked to hit Fisher on the break. Jansen wrapped up the win with 8 minutes to play, scoring his second as he finished off a fine counter-attacking move.
Fisher manager Gary Lisney will have been disappointed by the individual errors that littered the Fisher performance, and the team will be looking to bounce back at Clapton on Tuesday in the London Senior Cup.
