Kent Football League

Herne Bay 2 - 1 Fisher
Saturday 16 October 2010 - 15:00

Unlucky Fisher came away with nothing from a trip to Herne Bay, despite dominating the second half of a tight and competitive match.
Bay shaded the early exchanges, but the Fish defence was able to deal with the Kent Premier League’s top scorers without too much difficulty. However the game exploded into action on the half-hour mark, as Simon Brown latched on to a through-ball and his shot beat Fisher keeper Adam Lisney to put Bay 1-0 up. Shortly after the goal, Bay were reduced to ten men following a late challenge on Mark Lewis, and Fisher sensed an opportunity to get back into the game.
Manager Gary Lisney switched to a 4-4-2 for the second half, but Fisher were punished when they fell asleep at the back and let Bay’s impressive centre-half Steven Hanson sneak in from a free-kick to tuck away Bay’s second. The rest of the game was all Fisher, and the pressure finally told when Steve O’Donnell slammed Cedric Abraham’s knock-down into the net to halve the deficit on 54 minutes. But despite the pressure Fisher could not force an equaliser, with O’Donnell denied a second by the linesman’s flag.
The Fish will be disappointed by the scoreline, but encouraged by the performance as they once again showed that they can compete with the top sides in the league.
