VCD Athletic 1 - 0 Fisher
Saturday 6 November 2010 - 15:00

Fisher put in a battling performance but in the end VCD’s relentless attacks finally paid dividends in the 82nd minute.
Manager Gary Lisney gave debuts to new central midfield duo Steve Sallis and Philip Hadland whilst skipper Cedric Abraham was pushed up to attack partnering Juan Ramerez. After just 5 minutes Callum Roberts was forced off with a groin strain, another debutant Marc Hughes was brought on to partner Jimmy Beaucamp in defence.
After conceding thirteen goals in their previous three cup outings, the Fish re-discovered their defensive stubbornness with keeper Adam Lisney in particularly fine form. However an enterprising VCD worked tirelessly all over the park forcing the Fish into mistakes with their constant harassing.
On 25 minutes the home side should have taken a deserved lead when a VCD forward was felled by a stray Fisher boot just inside the area. The resulting penalty sent Lisney the wrong way but the foot of the post came to Fisher’s rescue.
Fisher’s attacking prowess was limited to the odd Ramerez forage forward. 10 minutes into the second half, the away sides number nine beat two defenders and looked to have been felled in the box but the ref waved play on. Luis Rozan had a direct free kick comfortably saved on the hour mark.
The Fish seemed content to hold on for the point but VCD had other ideas. Finally with eight minutes remaining, the home keeper launched it long from a free kick just inside the VCD half. The Fish defence misjudged the flight of the ball and Jamie Wood was on hand to nip in and prod the ball past Lisney from close range.
