Fisher slumped to a third consecutive defeat at Tunbridge Wells, with a promising start undone by at times shambolic defending.
Manager Gary Lisney handed starts to big striker Dwayne Cowan and midfielder Ernest Simon, with Louis Sprosen returning to partner Simon in midfield. The Fish made early headway, with Cowan getting his head to a couple of long throws. But Wells took advantage of some poor work at the back to take the lead, with Carl Cornell twice pouncing on hesitant defending.
Referee Mr Finnegan failed to endear himself to either side as a series of fussy decisions led to harsh bookings for both teams, setting a precedent that was always going to lead to one side finishing with fewer than 11 men.
The Fish deservedly got back in to the game when Rafa Akala steered a Cowan flick-on past the Wells keeper, but Fish conceded a third almost immediately after the restart. The second half was a disappointment for the Fish, as they allowed Wells to score a fourth immediately after the break and were unable to stop an impressive Wells side from scoring three more before the final whistle.
While the Fish will be disappointed with the scale of this defeat, Wells took their chances well and Carl Cornell’s five goal salvo included some unstoppable finishing.
George Savage fell victim to the referee’s officiousness as he saw red late in the game, completing a miserable away day for Fisher.
