Fisher lifted themselves to another level after the disappointing defeat to Holmesdale in the week and showed the kind of class that we all know the team are capable of. Debutant Daniel Teeley had a great game in goal and his confident and self-assured performance led to the first clean sheet for The Fish since 9th October 2010.
On the attack, Fisher’s pace an incisive play was a constant threat to the Lords’ back line and, in truth, the margin of victory could have been bigger.
The final 15 minutes were the most tense and excitement filled as both sides pushed hard for more goals. George Savage came close for the Fish in a one-on-one with the ‘keeper Matt Byott. Dwayne Cowan had a good game and his replacement, Steve O’Donnell also got stuck in up front.
At the back, captain Mark Lewis put in a solid man-of-the match performance and Jimmy Beauchamp also had a good game.week and showed the kind of class that we all know the team are capable of. It was new signing Ernest ‘Jay-Jay’ Simon, who scored the deciding goal. A header from a timely cross in the second half.
Referee Stephen Brown gave a creditable performance. He contained the dissent and managed both teams with a stylish confidence. If we could have more like Stephen at this level we would all benefit, fans, players and administrators alike.
Finally, it was Fisher FC’s pleasure to entertain Denise Richmond and Roy Vinter, the Kent League Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer respectively. We are sure that the entertainment on offer and the positive manner in which the game was played by both teams and refereed by the officials was a great advert for the Kent league.
Roll on Monday evening when we entertain league high-fliers and FA Cup giant-killers Hythe Town.
