Two goals from Shiblu Miah helped Sporting Bengal beat local rivals Fisher to leave the club rooted to bottom spot in the Kent League.
After a quiet first half in which the Fish went close through a long range Juan Ramirez effort that had Bengal keeper Alfie Brincatt scrambling, the game came to life in the second half. Ramirez was fouled in the box, but Brincatt saved superbly from his resulting spot kick to keep the scores level. That was the Tigers’ cue to take control of the game and they took the lead when Shiblu Miah poked in from close range.
Just five minutes later, Miah added a second when a speculative effort was parried into the net by Adam Lisney in the Fisher goal. The Fish should have had a second chance from the spot as Ramirez was felled by a late challenge in the box, but the referee instead chose to book him for diving without consulting his better placed assistant.
Dexter Babalola’s late low drive gave Fisher faint hopes of a comeback at Champion Hill before John Donooughie slotted home to secure all three points for the visitors.
It was a deserved scoreline for Mamun Chowdhury’s team. They looked far more determined than Fisher, who appeared sluggish a week after their spirited performance away at Hythe.
