Fisher ignited their season with their first win courtesy of a highly entertaining attacking performance that saw them overwhelm Phoenix Sports in a 6-2 victory. The hard ground of the weekend game at Rusthall had claimed Festos Kamara with a fractured wrist and Tyron Mbuenimo and Flavio Jumo with sore knees, so it was a vastly changed side that took the softer rubber crumb based pitch at St Pauls, with Charles Yaidom Konadu also unavailable due to work commitments. Rafa Garcia returned to side with Kaylam Burgess free from suspension to make his return to the club coming into the back line along with Collin Skhoyimue.
With the visitors also coming into the game on an indifferent start to the league, it was no surprise the game stared at blistering pace, after a poignant minute silence for former Fisher Athletic manager Mike Bailey, with both sides looking to get forward and play on the front foot. Whilst Phoenix saw more of the ball in the opening exchanges, moving it around well, it was Fisher who looked the more threatening and just six minutes in they took the lead. Good work on the right from Temi Alaka forced an early corner and his quick pass to Alex Kozak, playing today off the striker, allowed him  to jink on the inside of two defenders and the curl a low left footed shot through a crowd of players and nestle in the far corner of the goal.
Buoyed by the goal Fisher pressed on, looking to take control of the game as their somewhat shellshocked visitors tried to regroup. Euan Mutale rose to get a looping header in from a cross from the left but the ball was cleared off the line before Fisher were gifted a second as the Phoenix keeper miskicked on clearing from outside his box and Euan Mutale’s pace and awareness allowed him to race past the retreating keeper and get a foot in to slide the ball away from his despairing dive and nudge it over the line.
Mutale was looking a threat on every Fisher attack, and the former Dundee youngster soon added his second and Fisher’s third. Kozak again was given space from a short corner to drive at the Phoenix back line and his low delivery into the box was brought down superbly by centre back Don Macaulay, chopping back onto his left like a seasoned forward before sweeping in a shot that was parried by the keeper onto the head of Mutale who nodded it instinctively into the empty net to put Fisher three up inside twenty minutes with a proper poachers goal.
Phoenix certainly needed the next goal if they were to get anything out of the game and that duly came when a flighted free kick from the left was powerfully headed back across the goal by Joe Deeny and kissed the inside of the post on its way into the net. However as soon as they had given themselves hope, Fisher wrestled back control. A neat passing move fed Rafa Garcia on the left and he squared to find James Bessey-Saldanha whose shot was again only half saved and Temi Alaka pounced to stab home the loose ball and restore the three goal cushion going into the break.
The second half saw Fisher slow a little and in trying to manage the game by playing about at the back they almost contributed to their own downfall as with a little more luck Phoenix might have seen a couple of deliveries find the net rather than sweep past the post and Akinde saved well when Brisset pounced on a misplaced pass.  The escape woke Fisher up and when Alaka was felled on the edge of the box Alex Kozak stepped up and exquisitely struck the ball into the top corner, past a rooted keeper, to make it 5-1. A careless tackle just inside the corner of the area saw Phoenix win a penalty that Taylor Fisher converted but it was to be just a consolation as late on substitute Mekhi Clarke saw his shot from a tight angle cannon off the post but a hurried clearance of the rebound allowed fellow substitute Jake Lovell to pick the ball up and drive back into the area down the right channel and blast a rasping effort into the roof of the net to make it six for Fisher and cap an excellent night for the home supports in the large midweek crowd.
