FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay

Fisher 1 - 6 Chichester City
Monday 22 August 2011 - 19:45

Fisher’s biggest win as a supporter-owned club secures safe passage to the FA Cup preliminary round against Sussex county opposition who were thoroughly outclassed by their opponents.
Steve Firkins made six changes to the side that started at Chichester on Saturday with forwarding pairing Danny Hunt and Peter Afolayan injured and rested respectively. Those he trusted to start though did him proud – no more so than Steve O’Donnell who contributed his first Fisher hat-trick and put in a performance also earning him man-of-match.
Peter Afolayan, was given a well-earned rest with Firkins having one-eye on two games in three days over the Bank Holiday so there was a start for the energetic Mark Sisson alongside Steve O’Donnell in attack.
Fisher started the game at a very high tempo and Chichester struggled to contain their movement and pace early on.
With just 9 minutes on the clock Jarrett-Elliott threw himself at a Adam Wadmore long throw to put Fisher ahead before Steve O’Donnell fired home a second from six yards just minutes later.
Joe Briggs pulled one back for Chichester on the half hour with a curling finish beating Firkins from the edge of the penalty area but despite increasing possession and pressure from the visitors it was Fisher who scored again, restoring their two goal lead before half-time.
Another long throw from Wadmore was met by the head of O’Donnell who flicked the ball on to Richie Monan. Monan turned his marker and neatly slotted a right-footed shot into the far corner from eight yards.
Fisher scored the fourth and decisive goal on 50 minutes which effectively killed the game as a contest. O’Donnell drove a left foot shot into the roof of the net from eight yards to grab his brace.
The Fish were now getting into second gear and quickly passing their way through the City defence with relative ease.
The fifth goal was the best strike of the night and a first Fisher goal for Adam Wadmore. Danny Tipple beat his man and cut in from the left before slotting a ball through to Wilson-Joseph in the area, he then delicately laid the ball off for Wadmore to his right who struck a side-footed first time effort from 20 yards which just clipped the underside of the bar and into the top left corner.
Goal number six came on 75 minutes with O’Donnell grabbing a well deserved hatrick.
The lightning quick Nathaniel Bell sprinted down the right channel before first jumping a tackle from the City left-back and then cooly rounding the on-rushing keeper by the byline. He then unselfishly cut the ball across for Steve O’Donnell to get his easiest finish of the night, as he fired home a simple tap in from 6 yards.
Chichester rallied for a consolation goal in injury time – Mike Turvey found himself through on goal after the Fisher defence were caught napping but Danny Firkins saved brilliantly with his legs just managing to deflect the ball wide of the far post.
Fisher net the £750 prize money from FA Cup sponsors Budweiser and now face another away trip to a Sussex County side in the form of Lingfield FC in the Preliminary Round of the competition on Saturday 3rd September.
