A dominant Fisher performance ensured there was never any danger of an FA Vase shock on Saturday, as they traveled to Sussex County League Division 2 side Seaford Town
The game started brightly, and despite the less than glorious weather conditions, the Fish fans who had traveled in good numbers created a superb atmosphere in the early stages which seemed to inspire the players.
Within the first few minutes Shane Uings blasted a shot over the bar from around 20 yards out and Kieron Campbell saw a threatening shot go wide of the target. In the 11th minute, Seaford’s backline broke down and a well struck shot from Mark Chiverton opened the scoring. From then on Fisher never looked back, and just four minutes later a well-placed through ball from Junior James released Chiverton who calmly slotted home the second goal of the afternoon
Despite continuous pressure and dangerous moves from Campbell, Harvey Hanifan and Junior James amongst others causing numerous problems for Seaford, it wasn’t until the 33rd minute that the Fish found the net again. A fast move down the left wing saw Junior James get a faint touch on Jack Webber’s low cross to put Fisher in to a well-deserved 3-0 lead.
For a time it looked like the floodgates would open and Fisher could have easily extended their lead further before the break but the scores remained at 3-0 until half time.
The second half started a little more slowly, and Seaford started to show signs of attacking intent. Adam Highsted had a quiet afternoon between the posts, but when he was called upon he did well to pull off a great save from a short range effort.
In the 58th minute, Fisher added a much deserved fourth to the scoreline. A great move down the right wing saw Harvey Hanifan swing an inch perfect cross into the box which set up Chiverton who in turn pulled off a perfect turn mid-air to volley home and complete his hat-trick.
With the result now all but secured Fisher eased off and in the last half hour, despite the introduction of Jamie Taylor and Troy Abbey, chances were a little harder to come by. As the rain finally stopped midway through the second half, Seaford created a couple more chances, the best of which saw the foot of the post rescue Highsted’s clean sheet after he was beaten by a lobbed effort.
In the end, a comfortable performance from Fisher ended with the score still at 4-0, which puts the Fish into the First Round proper of the competition (which will be drawn on Monday).
