Woodstock Sports 2 - 2 Fisher
Saturday 17 November 2012 - 15:00

Fisher looked on course for a much-needed victory, only to be denied by a last-minute penalty at Woodstock Sports.
The Fish were just seconds away from a second league win of the season, but a failure to deal with a ball pumped in to the box led to goalkeeper Juan Figueroa-Ball bringing down the Woodstock forward, and Ashley Baverstock converted the spot kick.
Fisher had turned in a much-improved performance before this, looking lively going forward as the partnership of Badar Mohamed and Carl Gibbs began to gel. It was Gibbs who broke the deadlock as Fisher were able to convert early pressure into a goal. Put through on goal by Huseyin Budak, Gibbs drove at goal but saw his shot parried by Woodstock keeper Chris Smith. The powerful striker didn’t give up however and he was able to reach the rebound and bundle the ball over the line.
Fisher continued to dominate territory and possession, although the home side skied an excellent chance on the break. Marvin Alebiosu headed a Mark Lewis free-kick wide, while Woodstock defender Daniel Baverstock had his blushes spared by his keeper after he shinned a corner in the direction of his own net.
But Woodstock equalised against the run of play, with Ashley Baverstock put through by a long ball. Fisher’s claims for an offside flag were not rewarded by the assistant referee, and Baverstock sent an excellent chipped finish over Figueroa-Ball to level the scores.
The home side then enjoyed a spell where they looked more likely to score, although chances were few and far between and Winston Kentebe, making his debut at centre-half for the Fish, dealt with the high balls that came his way. Fisher then had a strong penalty shout ruled out by a dubious offside flag, Mohamed appearing to time his run from behind the defensive line perfectly before being taken out by keeper Smith as he went through on goal – but the assistant had his flag raised.
After the half-time break, it was all Fisher. Mohamed saw a shot saved and scrambled to safety while Ope Aromona put a shot wide. Aromona made amends just after the hour mark, after receiving the ball from Mark Lewis about nine yards out he fired at goal and the ball beat the keeper courtesy of a slight deflection.
The Fish then looked to hold what they had, an operation that worked successfully until the final minute. The home side had a penalty shout turned down, though it would have been a very harsh decision had it gone against the Fish. The defence continued to gobble up the direct balls played forward, and were protected by the hard-working central midfield pairing of Budak and Jamie Taylor.
But just as Fisher thought they had done enough, a single moment of indecision was enough to give Ashley Baverstock the chance to score from the spot and he equalised with literally the last kick of the game, the referee immediately blowing for full time after the conversion.
