Sporting Bengal United 4 - 3 Fisher
Saturday 11 December 2010 - 15:00

Fisher experienced a defensive day to forget as a rampant Sporting Bengal ripped the Fish defence to shreds and Bengal hammered four goals past Adam Lisney without reply in a miserable first hour.
It could have been a different story had debutant Isa Bangura made a clean connection when put through on goal in the first minute, but his shot was scuffed and Jason Hartless made a comfortable save to his right.
Bengal took the lead from their first corner of the game. Phillipae Anzalio attacked the raised ball with aplomb to head home, as a static back four were caught ball watching. Fisher failed to get a grip on a stodgy pitch and their usual passing game failed to materialise. The hosts eventually doubled their lead on 40 minutes,an unmarked Anzalio once again getting the telling touch to nod passed Lisney.
Almost from the re-start it got worse for the Fish backline. A stray pass across the back was mercilessly cut out by Stephen Forbes who was clumsily brought down in the box. Anton Lewis sent Lisney the wrong way from the spot.
George Savage, one of the very few Fisher players to emerge with any credit, almost produced a goal out of nothing just before the break – unleashing a fine 25 yarder which brought out the best in Hartless – tipping the effort over the bar.
After the predicted half time rocket, Fisher’s response was tepid as Sporting once again got the better of a hapless back four – Anzalio firing home to complete his hat-trick with Bengal’s best goal of the game.
The Fish finally got their act together as Savage went on a searching run down the right channel. After a cute bit of skill a stray home boot brought down the winger which prompted the referee to point to the spot. Raphael Akala did the honours to smash home past Hartless. It was then the turn of Bengal’s back four to show some hesitancy as Akala capitalised on poor defending to slot home into an empty net.
The hardy Fish souls who made the trip across the river began to dream of an amazing comeback especially when Savage completed a Fisher man-of-the-match performance, looping a header over Hartless with eight left on the clock.
However that was the end of Fisher’s attacking threat as Bengal kept the ball well to keep the Fish at arm’s length and record a deserved win on their home turf.
