Kent League Cup First Round First Leg

Fisher 0 - 2 Faversham Town
Saturday 24 October 2009 - 15:00

Fisher succumbed to another home defeat against runaway Kent League leaders Faversham Town. Two second half goals by the visitor’s earns Faversham a significant advantage as the teams are due to slog it out once again on Saturday 31st October at Salter Lane in the 2nd leg of this first round draw. A Jamie Lawrence direct free kick which was comfortably saved by Rob French in Town’s goal proved to be Fisher’s only chance in a rather forgetful first half. Both sides struggled to get a foothold in the game but just two minutes after the restart the visitor’s took the lead in rather fortuitous fashion. Damien Abel was tackled by Fish skipper Kris Hollidge but somehow the ball fell kindly to the away winger whose resulting cross was met by a Richard Sinden glancing header to give Town the lead.
Fisher’s response was encouraging but a well organised Faversham back four were able to soak up any pressure the Fish could muster. Finally on one occasion Fisher’s route one tactics got the better of Town’s imposing centre backs. The flight of a searching long ball was misjudged by Ashley Brown allowing Elstrom Die to get in behind. Die took the ball on 10 yards before unleashing a curling drive but French produced an excellent save palming the ball away.
As Fisher searched in vain for an equaliser Faversham caught the home side on the break. Michael Smissen with the final touch just a yard out to give Town a two goal advantage going into the 2nd away leg this Saturday.
