London Senior Cup Second Round

Fisher 2 - 1 Haringey Borough
Tuesday 19 January 2010 - 19:45

An entertaining cup tie at Champion Hill in freezing conditions went the way of the hosts after a stunning strike from Louis Sprosen and a deft finish from Luke Coleman turned the game on its head.
Haringey travelled to South London with indifferent form and a mounting fixture list given the squelchy goings on at White Hart Lane. However they played attractive football and in Lloyd Opara had a formidable prescence up front. Indeed it was Opara whose miss was worthy of a video on YouTube that cost the Boro a first half lead. Lisney in the Fisher goal made an excellent save from a bullet header to maintain parity. For Fisher, Coleman twice squandered opportunities, and a goalless scoreline at half time was as deserved as it was expected.
The second half was full of open football. Haringey took the lead after some defensive frailties were exposed early in the second half before Sprosen’s wonder strike. Lisney then made a world-class save as Haringey pressed, and what would be the eventual winner came from Coleman who was played in down the right and floated the ball over the advancing ‘Boro keeper and into the net.
Gary Lisney made some defensive substitutions and Fisher, with 6 defenders on the pitch soaked up the Haringey forays. But not without some hairy moments, not least in the final minute where a muddy, frantic scramble miraculously kept the ball from crossing the goalline. So thankfully another 30 minutes of toe-numbing football were avoided, and Fisher entertain Cray Wanderers in the 3rd round.
