Holmesdale 0 - 3 Fisher
Tuesday 23 September 2014 - 19:45

Fisher earned an important three points on the road on Tuesday when they beat a good Holmesdale side 3-0.
Holmesdale started well and provided the first shots of the game, hitting both the post and the cross bar within the opening five minutes. During the first fifteen minutes Holmesdale continued to push forward and ask questions of Fisher’s backline but couldn’t produce an effort good enough to beat Adam Highsted who enjoyed another solid display between the posts.
As the Fish settled in to the game they began to create chances themselves with Kieron Campbell and Mark Chiverton causing issues for the hosts. It was a move from Campbell that gave Fisher the lead in the 29th minute. Campbell was taken down in the box and the referee showed no hesitation in awarding a penalty, which Danny Maguire fired home with a little help from the underside of the cross bar.
Six minutes later Campbell could (and probably deserved to) have doubled Fisher’s lead when he unleashed a venomous, dipping long range effort which rattled against the bar. Minutes later things took a bad turn for the Fish when Danny Maguire was nudged off the ball and fell awkwardly causing an injury which meant he needed to be taken off. Troy Abbey came on in his place and quickly settled in to the game, seeing a well struck effort saved just before the break.
Fisher introduced Ehis Izokun in place of Nat Bell which added pace down the right wing and quickly showed signs of promise as they linked up well under pressure but Izokun’s cross was dealt with by the Holmesdale defence.
When a good run by Kyle Demtrious down the left side saw Troy Abbey receive the ball in a dangerous position, he calmly fired home Fisher’s second goal in the 62nd minute. Holmesdale continued to ask questions of the Fish, but a more solid looking midfield and defensive line (plus several superb saves from Highsted) saw Fisher keep their third clean sheet of the season.
In the 78th minute, Chiverton, who had worked tirelessly throughout the game finally got his reward when he sent home his first goal for the Fish from the edge of the box to make it 3-0. The Fish then introduced Alfie Roche (replacing Al-Hassan Oshilaja) for the final few minutes. Abbey and Roche combined well to set up Chiverton, but he was denied his second goal by a deflection which sent his shot go over the bar.
Despite a couple more chances, Holmesdale failed to find the net for the first time this season. The result moves Fisher onto 8 points and up to 16th place in the table going into Saturday’s game against Corinthian.
