Southern Counties East Football League

Fisher 0 - 5 Beckenham Town
Saturday 11 January 2014 - 15:00

Saturday was an afternoon to forget for Fisher when local rivals Beckenham Town visited Champion Hill, and left with a comfortably won three points.
The match was preceded by a minute of silence in the memory of Southern Counties East Football League President Roy Vinter, who sadly passed away last week.
Before Fisher could find their feet in the game, Beckenham were ahead courtesy of a well hit strike from Frankie Warren. Warren, returning to his former club, struck a fine half-volley past Billy Hensman as Fisher allowed him the freedom of the penalty area. Alfie Nunn got the better of Fisher’s defence on eight minutes later and doubled the visitors lead.
Beckenham never looked back and totally bossed the play throughout the first half, reducing Fisher to just a handful of attempts, none of which caused Beckenham any problems. The best chance of the half came from a dangerous cross from Troy Abbey, unfortunately Fisher had no-one in the box to get on the end of the inviting ball and Beckenham survived a rare moment of pressure. Very little was going Fisher’s way, with a combination of unusually sloppy passing and a generally scrappy game, creating absolutely nothing for the hosts, who could only force the Becks’ goalkeeper into action twice in first half. Both sides saw players pick up bookings for heavy challenges and it looked like becoming one of those games where neither side would finish the match with 11 men (although surprisingly both did).
The second half looked a bit more positive from a Fisher point of view (to start with anyway), but that was soon quelled in the 52nd minute. Former Sevenoaks Town midfielder Jake Britnell battled his way into the box and set up Alfie Nunn who found the net with ease to double his tally and put the game beyond Fisher’s reach. To their credit, Fisher stuck to their game and continued to try to play their usual attractive passing game, although Beckenham were determined to make life difficult for their hosts, and did well to cut out anything Fisher could throw at them.
Beckenham continued to pile misery on the vocal Fisher support (helped by some visiting FC United of Manchester fans) when they introduced Alex Wilks, who duly scored within a minute of coming on when Billy Hensman came off his line but failed to collect the ball.
Ten minutes later, and with Fisher still looking second best by a long way, substitute Junior Fatai managed to create a decent effort, only to see it curl wide of the far post.
Minutes later, Henmsan pulled off a great low save to his left, only to concede a corner, which was whipped in deep and then converted into Beckenham’s fifth and final goal by Jason Rose.
