Fisher played their final home game of 2013-14 season against Phoenix Sports on Saturday, and lost 3-1.
Fisher enjoyed a bright start to the game, creating a couple of decent chances early on, but were wasteful when it came to crossing and couldn’t break down the resolute Phoenix defence. At the other end Oshane Brown pulled of some good saves to keep the visitors off the score sheet.
In the 16th minute, Fisher were awarded a free kick in what looked like a pretty harmless position out on the right wing. What seemed like a cross from taker Piers Hanifan eluded everyone, including Sports’ goalkeeper Dean Nash who couldn’t react before the ball had crossed the line, and with that Fisher were ahead.
Fisher could well have gone further ahead, as Kieron Campbell and Junior James created a sublime attacking move, but were denied by Nash who got a hand on Campbell’s through ball before it reached James.
Phoenix had more chances, but it wasn’t until the 35th minute that they got the better of Brown, with Alex Nelson scoring the equaliser. Before Fisher could settle, Phoenix struck again, this time Sam Corne finding the back of the net and put the visitors ahead. Phoenix started to take control of the game from then on, and took a 2-1 lead into the second half.
Fisher introduced Kieron Burrell at half time, replacing Harry Draper who had picked up a booking in the first period.
The second half saw Fisher become disjointed as Phoenix went out to kill the game off, and although there were chances for the Fish they were few and far between and failed to threaten the visitors. To freshen things up on the hour mark the injured Junior James was replaced by Steven Ita, but the change didn’t have the desired effect and the Fish still looked tame in attack.
Phoenix did eventually kill the game off in the 70th minute when Miles Cornwell added Sports’ third to wrap up the points. Fisher did try to claw their way back but lacked quality and simply couldn’t break Phoenix down.
