Woodstock Sports 1 - 2 Fisher
Monday 21 April 2014 - 15:00

Bank Holiday Monday saw the Fish pick up three valuable points when they visited basement side Woodstock Sports. Despite some good early play it was Sports that hit first. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 11th minute of the game, which Fish goalkeeper Justin Lee saved and then cleared away for a Sports throw-in. They took the throw quickly and Rob Weller was able to chip the ball over the retreating Lee to give Sports the lead.
As the Fish went hunting for an equaliser, manager Billy Walton was ordered from the dugout for his enthusiastic reaction to Kieron Burrell’s harsh booking. That came after a couple of strong penalty shouts that only managed to win the Fish a free kick around an inch outside the box, which Sports managed to defend and clear without too much trouble.
Kieron Burrell and Kieron Campbell then joined forces, completing a sublime passing move by setting up Jay Garrick who fired the ball over the bar from close range. Danny Maguire then whipped in a dangerous looking cross but the Sports goalkeeper collected it with ease.
The second half saw the Fish continue to press their hosts, with Campbell, Garrick and Ita all causing problems for the Sports defenders. It wasn’t until the 65th minute that they finally broke them down. A great move saw the ball fall for Kieron Campbell, 25 yards out, who fired the ball past the goalkeeper to level the scores.
Sports continued to attack well, although Fisher never really looked in trouble after equalising, and it seemed like only a matter of time before they would score again. As the clock ticked into the 90th minute Fisher broke, and Jay Garrick calmly slotted the ball home to give Fisher the lead. In stoppage time Fisher could have added a third but Sports managed to keep the scores at 2-1.
The win moves Fisher onto 27 points, level with Rochester (who are above the Fish by 1 goal) going into Saturday’s game away at Beckenham, which will bring the season to a close.
