Another injury time goal earned Fisher all three points in a pulsating game against Faversham Strike Force, as debutant Tyrese Briscoe slammed home in the ninety second minute to win the game 4-3 in front of a season’s high crowd at St Paul’s.
An injury to Tyron Mbuenimo saw him drop to the bench and Festos Kamara was fit to start replacing Mekhi Clarke, with Collin Skhoyimue also back in the starting line up in what looked a strong matchday squad. However, they were given a setback very early in the game as inside 2 minutes Faversham took the lead. A long throw into the penalty area was headed goalwards, with Fisher not competing well enough for the first contact and whilst Zach Akinde was able to claw the ball away off the line, it fell to Josh Oliver who slammed home to give the visitors a perfect start.
The game featured two very opposing styles and Fisher’s equaliser midway through the half came from some sublime passing football with the ball not leaving the ground as it moved through six different players before Kamara dropped deep to tuck the ball outside for Rafael Garcia to slip him back in along the touchline and his pace took him into the penalty area where he squared it along the floor for Temi Alaka to tap home at the back post. Just past the half hour mark Fisher got themselves in front as Jack Gibbons intercepted a loose pass and strode into the Faversham half before slipping a measured ball down the inside right channel for James Bessey Saldanha to run onto and the classy midfielder settled himself before slamming it into the top near corner. The game was really opening up and Fisher were looking rampant on the attack with Garcia having a headed effort saved and both Gibbons and Garcia again seeing efforts fantastically saved by the Faversham keeper. Fisher’s defensive frailties, which have seen them yet to keep a clean sheet this season, struck again in added time in the first half. Once again it was a long throw that was their undoing, as this time too many players competed for the same ball which allowed far too much space for Oliver Gray to control the second ball and tuck it into the far corner.
There was no let up in the pace of the game in the second half and ten minutes in Fisher retook the lead following some good work down the right wing. Temi Alaka refused to be beaten by his marker, trying to let the ball run out of play, and nipped it to steal the ball along the byline before slipping back it into the path of Festos Kamara, who from a tight angle switched it onto his left foot and smashed the ball into the top corner. It was a goal of sweet revenge, as minutes earlier Kamara had been barged dangerously into the surrounding fence leading to a long stoppage in play while he was treated and a yellow card for the offending Faversham player who on a different day may have seen red.
A superb double save denied Garcia from getting on the goal sheet as he tried to force home from close range. Fisher were made to pay for not securing a two goal cushion when on sixty six minutes a good move from Strikeforce created an opening on the left and although Akinde managed to half save the effort Mefose Esumobi was on hand to tuck home the rebound from two yards out. Once again Fisher had to go in search of a winner and it was the introduction from the subs bench of Mekhi Clarke and Tyrese Briscoe, both a real handful up front, that finally edged Fisher home. Festos Kamara had pushed wide and his constant running and pace finally undid Faversham as the game moved into injury time. Having already been denied with two good saves Kamara got to the byline and chipped the ball across goal where Clarke’s flying header just failed to make contact but Tyrese Briscoe was following up behind to absolutely leather the ball into the corner of the net to delight of the massed ranks of Fisher fans in the Dockers stand behind the goal. The win took Fisher to the top of the embryonic Premier Division table as we head into the autumn months.
