Fisher edged an enthralling game at St Pauls with Eden Deh’s last minute strike seeing them win by the odd goal in nine in front a large crowd enjoying the goal fest under the Autumnal sunshine.
Fisher were hampered by injuries, so Joe Denny, signed on Friday afternoon came straight into the back four, replacing Rob White, with Aaron Archibald continuing to cover Tyron Mbuenimo in the defensive midfield role and Rafa Garcia starting in place of Euan Mutale. Conor Darwish was fit enough to take a place on the bench after missing Tuesday’s win over Petts Wood and Holmesdale.
A rollercoaster of a game began with Fisher almost taking an early lead as Rafa Garcia saw a snapshot from the edge of the box whistle past the far upright and some excellent approach play around the edge of the box saw James Bessey Saldanha tee up Temi Alaka whose goal bound shot was deflected wide. Fisher did not have to wait long for the opener though as on twenty minutes Temi Alaka tucked the ball inside on the right and Jack Gibbons was able to sweep a curling outswinger into the far top corner from the edge of the box. A second quickly followed six minutes later, with Bessey-Saldanha the architect as he slipped a measured through ball for Temi Alaka to run onto and take a touch before slamming it into the roof of the net. The two goal cushion, with Fisher again looking in imperious form going forward ought to have seen them in control. However, Bearsted responded superbly and took the game back to Fisher with Dieko Falade picking up a half cleared long throw, cutting inside and curling an effort into the far side of the goal to pull a goal back on thirty four minutes. Within five minutes they had levelled as a chipped delivery into the box bounced off several heads before Falade spun and swept home from the edge of the six yard box. Fisher protested furiously that he had dragged his marker in the build-up, with Don Macaulay being too vocal and sin binned as a result. In what was now a tight game the numerical disadvantage was always going to be a problem and a man short Fisher were cut open on the stroke of half time with Matt Day running onto a through ball and bundling the ball past the outcoming Akinde to tap home from close range having beaten the retreating defenders to the ball. In just over ten minutes at the end of the half Fisher had gone from being tin complete control, two up, to being behind.
The second spell saw Fisher immediately trying to correct things and inside seven minutes they had levelled. A fine move down the right saw Temi Alaka power down the right and cut into the area before pulling the ball back for Festos Kamara, who had started the move, to slam home from ten yards out. Bearsted were still complaining about a perceived foul from much earlier in the phase of play which resulted in skipper Ryan Blake also being sin binned and as when Fisher had been down to ten this was to prove decisive as six minutes later Fisher got themselves back in front. Temi Alaka linked up with Jack Gibbon down the right and the latter floated in a cross, which found Rafe Garcia sneaking in behind the back line to chest the ball under control before placing his right-footed volley past the exposed keeper. Fisher again looked for a two goal cushion. Briscoe rifled over and Gracia saw a shot fly past the post. But with twenty minutes to go Bearsted again levelled as they worked the ball down the left and a low cross gave Falade his hat trick as he tapped home from two yards out.
Both sides looked for a winner with the visitors making the better chances before an aerial challenge on halfway saw the referee issue a red card to the Bearsted defender, citing an elbow. Once more the numerical advantage was exploited and with ninety minutes on the clock substitute Eden Deh found a yard of space in the left to whip over a cross that the Bearsted keeper could only help into the net at the back post to give Fisher yet another dramatic last gasp win, thrilling the 337 present in the crowd.
