Snodland Town 0-0 Fisher

SCEFL Premier Division

For the first time this season, Fisher failed to find the net as they were held to a goal less draw at Snodland Town, although results elsewhere still saw them extend their lead at the top of the SCEFL Premier Division to four points. James Bessey Saldanha was missing from the line up, but Charles Yiadom Konadu came in, with several players rested in the midweek league cup win also returning.
Fisher opted to play up the hill in the first half and made a strong start. Rafa Garcia showed some neat touches out on left, combining well with Charles Yiadom Konadu to break into the box on two occasions but the home keeper was quickly out to smoother the danger. On the other wing Fisher were slipping the ball in behind for Temi Alaka, who was able to supply some low crosses that were well cut out by the Snodland back line. Fisher had a great chance to take the lead on seven minutes as a good spell of pressure ended with Jack Gibbons slipping a low through ball between centre back and full back that Euan Mutale ran on to, but he dragged his effort for the far corner just wide of the upright. It was to prove the best chance for either side of a game that largely saw the two sides blunt each other out. Snodland’s most notable effort of the early exchanges saw Batt save low down to gather a well-placed back post header. Fisher did briefly think they had taken the lead midway through the half as Garcia worked some space and whilst his shot was blocked Kamara’s effort on the rebound looked to be heading in via a deflection but then cannoned into Alaka who turned and shot instinctively to send the ball into the net but from an offside position.
Fisher were then dealt a blow with ten minutes of the half remaining as creative talisman Yiadom Konadu limped off to be replaced by Flavio Jumo. Conor Darwish also had to spend time off the field being patched up after receiving an arm to the face in a game that was becoming increasingly stop start with a number of fouls.
The second spell continued in similar style with both sides getting entangled in a midfield battle, although it was Fisher who looked the more likely to make the breakthrough with the slope favouring them. Festos Kamara looked like he might burst through but was scythed down earning the first of three yellow cards for Snodland. Fisher pushed on for a goal but in turn that left them exposed to counter attacks and only some great covering defending from Conor Darwish stopped Snodland exploiting this, with their winger Nathan Olawole looking more of a threat, often cutting inside and getting a couple of shots away which fortunately were both high and wide. With an attacking bench Fisher rang the changes looking for a formula to unlock the stubborn hosts who were well marshalled by player manager Connor Dymond sitting just in front of the back four. A through ball for substitute Mekhi Clarke saw him dragged down with a tight judgement call of a covering defender sparing Snodland from seeing out the last ten minutes a player short.
Deep into the game disaster almost struck for Fisher as a shot cannoned up in the air and a Snodland forward beat Batt to the looping ball to nod home, but again the offside flag was up with he player straying behind the last defender from the initial shot. There was still time for Fisher to have a last spell of pressure and the final few minutes saw a tough examination of the Snodland rearguard with some neat build up play on the right allowing space for Gibbons to attempt an audacious outside of the boot curling effort for the top corner, that just lacked a few inches of height allowing the keeper to gather. Then with almost the last kick of the game Fisher worked another good move down the right and the ball in saw Clarke get across his marker but just got his contact underneath the ball on his hooked effort on the turn and it flew over the bar leaving Fisher to settle for a point.
