Fisher picked up a valuable three points after a dominant 2-0 win over local rivals Chislehurst Glebe on a wet evening at St Pauls.
There were two changes to the Fisher side from Saturday’s FA Vase win over Balham with Don Macaulay coming back in after being on family wedding duty at the weekend and Festos Kamara returning to the starting lineup after injury, with Lorenzo Duncan making way and dropping to the bench.
From the outset Fisher had the vast majority of possession and pinned Glebe into their own half for much of the opening fifteen minutes, but chances were few and far between with the final ball lacking quality. The first real opportunity fell to Kesna Clarke, but his long range effort was comfortably saved by Nathan Edwards
A mix up at the edge of the Fisher box with Isaac Ogunseri coming for a cross but not gathering the ball saw him redeem himself with an excellent block, spreading himself on the edge of his penalty area to deny Nathan Mampano. At the other end, Edwards pulled off an even better save to thwart Festos Kamara, as he popped up at the back post to drive Conor Darwish’s fizzed in cross, with the keeper sliding across his goal to somehow save with his legs.
A typical all action display from Tom Jones kept Fisher on the front foot and it seemed only a matter of time before the first goal would come. Clarke headed over at the back post from Jones good cross on the right and on the stroke of half time Rafael Garcia raced onto Clarke’s flick from Ogunseri’s huge clearance which bounced over the Foxes’ defence but saw the winger’s lob, over the advancing Edwards, drop agonisingly wide the far post.
The second half continued in similar vein with Fisher controlling possession and Glebe finding it increasingly hard to get out of their own half with, the usually prolific Jamie Philpot given no service up front and well marshalled by Ange Dajdja and Macaulay. However, it was once again looking like a frustrating evening in front of goal for the Fish emphasised when Clark took his shot too early after the Glebe centre half had gifted him the ball 25 yards out, allowing Edwards to save with ease despite being out of position, when he could easily have advanced on the hastily retreating keeper.
The introduction of Lorenzo Duncan changed Fisher’s fortunes, as the industrious utility player gave Glebe something different to think about, running in behind their back line and continually pressing has Glebe look to play out. In the seventy third minute Fisher finally found the back of the net when Kamara got away down the right wing and squared up his marker, before sending in a cross that was met by a deft touch from Duncan into the path of Kesna Clarke who emphatically slammed his shot into the top right-hand corner from ten yards out.
The goal saw Fisher ramp up the pressure as Edwards was forced into a series of saves to deny Darwish, Clarke and substitute David Mata, but it took until there were just five minutes remaining for Fisher to finally make the game safe with a two goal cushion. Good feet from Jones on the left earned him a free kick tight to the byline and his whipped delivery was beaten away at the near post by Edwards but fell to Michael Sarpong, who from 5 yards outside the penalty area rifled a first time right-footed half volley through a crowd of players leaving Edwards no chance as it lew into the right corner.
Fisher easily saw out the remaining minutes to see the dominant win and take all three points, leaving them in twelfth position in the league with games in hand over many of the teams above them.
