A fantastic second-half performance saw Fisher cruise into the First Round Proper of the FA Vase after a 4-1 victory against Combined Counties League leaders, Sutton Common Rovers. With Eden Deh and Courtney Barrington both moving on in the week, coupled with injuries to Charles Yiadom Konadu, Rafael Garcia and Flavio Jumo, it was a much changed side that started the game, with Jake Lovell and Omari Williams both coming in for their first starts of the season on either wing and Lorenzo Duncan regaining a starting spot in midfield. The bench saw places for Billy Brown, Nas Crespo and Tyron Mbuenimo on their respective returns from injury.
The early exchanges saw Fisher second best, with the size and strength of the Sutton Common Rovers side causing problems, and it was no surprise when from an early corner on the right the visitors took the lead as the Fisher defence struggled with the in swinging delivery and it was headed home by Sean Lyle at the back post. The visitors were giving Fisher little time to settle, feeding their forwards early and pegging Fisher into their own half. Slowly though Fisher started to find their feet and rather than try and compete with the power of the opposition they got the ball down and started joining up some passes to get the ball out onto the wings. The equalising goal arrived on twenty minutes, when a long kick forward from Tommy Taylor was brought down by Festos Kamara and he linked up with both Tom Jones and Lorenzo Duncan, before being fed the ball back on the edge of the penalty area, from where he sweetly connected with a powerful drive into the far corner giving the keeper no chance.
Rovers continued to look threatening from corners and long throws into the area, but the back full had learned their lesson from the early goal and made sure the first contact was theirs on every ball into the box. Good work from Jack Gibbons almost set up Kamara for a second but he was forced wide before he could get his shot away and then Tom Jones sent in a powerful shot from the edge of the area that just rose over the bar as Fisher ended the half on the front foot, having overcome their slow start. Two minutes before the break Rovers saw their central midfielder sin binned for having too much to say.  With Rovers therefore opening the second half a player short, Fish were able to quickly get into their passing game with Omari Williams and Jake Lovell becoming growing threats on either wing. Tom Jones tried his luck from distance with the first chance of the half, but it was comfortably saved by the visitors’ keeper. Just before the hour mark Fisher took the lead for the first time in the game as Fisher worked the ball well across the midfield before feeding Conor Darwish out on the left overlap and he whipped over a fabulous curling cross that Festos Kamara met perfectly on the edge of the six yard box to stab the ball home despite strong pressure from a defender. With their tails up Fisher almost added a third immediately as a raking cross field pass from Michael Sarpong landed in the path of Jake Lovell on the right wing but he saw his shot saved at the near post pushed away for a corner. However, the home supporters did not have to wait long for the third goal as on 66 minutes Kamara completed his hat trick. This time a fine ball came in from the right from Jack Gibbons and Omari Williams show good determination and agility to beat his defender in the air only to see his header crash off the crossbar, but Kamara was on hand to pick up the rebound and hit the ball home on the turn from close range, through a mass of bodies on the goal line.
Sutton tried hard to get back into the game and Tommy Taylor showed strong hands and good awareness with his angles to push over a well hit shot from the right of the penalty area. Some determined defending an excellent cover from the midfield denied Rovers any real clear cut chances as Fisher always looked the more likely to add to the score. Michael Sarpong stung the keeper’s hands with a 35 yard effort, before in injury time Kamara added his fourth, when latching onto a neat through ball and rounding the keeper before tucking the ball home, to cap a superb individual performance and wrap up the win for Fisher.
