Fisher played host to high flying Badshot Lea of the Combined Counties Premier Division South in. WIth the visitors  currently sitting in second spot having been beaten in the league only the once so far this season, it was always going to be a tough FA Vase tie
A lively opening from both sides set the the tone for the afternoon. Michael Sarpong managed to get a shot away in the 7th minute before the lineman’s flag halted play for an offside decision.Badshot’s right back James Smith burst past Cherradi and steadied himself from a narrow angle. His shot smashed into the side netting when perhaps a pull back to a teammate would have been the better option. An early let off for Fisher.
The opening quarter of an hour had by & large been dominated by Badshot. They got the ball down and popped it around very well. Fishers back four were being worked hard. But standing up well to what was being thrown at them.
Leas tricky number seven Danilo Cadete scurried away down the right before standing up a cross to the far post that was headed towards goal by Rule. Rules header was on target but it was blocked excellently by Sam Fitzgerald. This gave Lea a corner which was hacked downfield to relieve the pressure.
Aaron Glasgow showed superb strength when he saw off Caubo and let the ball run out for a goal kick.
Malachi Coker finally got himself on the ball and immediately drove down the right hand side before being stopped in his tracks. Courtney Swaby sent over the free kick before some head tennis between the two sides ensued.
25 gone and it was Cadete who won a 50/50 with Cherradi 20 yards from goal. He settled himself and sting the fingers of Carpanini who gathered the ball at the second attempt.
The opening goal came when that man Cadete produced a great piece of skill inside the box before getting a shot off that Carpanini saves but couldn’t hold. Caubo was following in as all good strikers should stooped down and nodded home from practically on the line. 0-1
Fisher had hardly put two passes together in the opening half hour and if they want to get back into the game they would now need all of their battling qualities. Cometh the hour cometh the man and up stepped Luke Thomas with a thumping but fair tackle showing the rest of his teammates what was required from everyone.
Courtney Swaby like so many of the Fisher players had been on the periphery for most of the half got himself some time and space on the ball and it was his square pass to Julio Da Mata that let Fisher have a sight of goal. Da Mata sliced his shot wide of the target.
Shortly before half time Fisher win a corner that is taken by Swaby. Cherradi beat everyone to the ball but headed wide from inside the six yard box. Just before the half time whistle Dean put a header just over the Fisher bar when a strange bounce found it’s way back to him after a challenge with Cherradi. So Fisher went in a goal down at half time after not being able to put much together.
HT-0-1
Fisher came out of the blocks well in the seconds half’s opening exchanges. Coker did well down the right and won a corner for the Fish. Swaby’s inswinger really put the cat amongst the pigeons before Badshot scrambled the ball away to safety. Sarpong took a really hefty challenge and can consider himself lucky to be able to carry on after some treatment, but the referee did not impose any punishment on the Badhst player, presummably unsighted of the severity of the challenge.
With 57 minutes gone Fisher found an equaliser of real quality. Swaby picked the ball up on the left and found the feet of Coker on the edge of the box. Coker’s perfectly weighted lay off allowed Michael Sarpong to add another goal of the season contender to his CV. A super strike from 25 yards that left Lunn in goal clutching at nothing but thin air.
This sent the Dockers Wnd into raptures!!! 1-1
The lead was to last only five minutes when a well worked corner routine found it’s way to danger man Tane Caubo to tuck the ball away to restore his sides lead. 1-2
AJ had seen enough and decided to replace Dennis Asante and bring on Harry Main to freshen things up.
Main was denied a penalty almost immediately when he was pulled down in the box as he positioned himself to receive a Coker pull back. Sarpong managed to collect a yellow card for a foul on Ford. Before making way for Udo.
Christian Udo quickly made his presence felt with a quick turn and snap shot that made the keeper work after nice play from Swaby and Main.
Late on Courtney Swaby was sin binned leaving Fisher at a disadvantage for the remainder of the game. Luke Thomas who looked back to his best picked up a late booking for a challenge that sent Rule sprawling as Fisher’s frustration grew. Cherradi also gave a late free kick away when his challenge was not required with the Badshot player not going anywhere. A late Coker scuff that was an attempt at a lob was all Fisher had left in the tank.
Badshot Lea had won the game here at St Pauls but Fisher will certainly feel they could have won the game.
