A patched up Fisher side turned in an outstanding performance in the October sun, with debutant Jason Mabbs scoring twice as the Fish put five past Sevenoaks.
With Junior James, Mark Sisson and Danny Hunt all ruled out with injuries, Richie Monan once again took up a central striking role with Chan Quan and Nathaniel Bell providing support from advanced wide positions. Mabbs formed a midfield trio with Isa Bangura and Ellis Wilson-Joseph.
It was Wilson-Joseph who opened the scoring on 9 minutes, as he went on a powerful run through the heart of the Sevenoaks defence. He got his shot away under pressure and it took a slight deflection to beat Oaks keeper Matt Bailey and put the Fish 1-0 up.
Sevenoaks then committed suicide on 14 minutes, as a short pass from Bailey was intercepted by Mabbs and with only the keeper to beat Mabbs made no mistake to give the Fish an early two goal lead. Both sides looked to play football though were hindered by the pitch which was dry, dusty and bobbly. Ryan Palmer hit the post for Sevenoaks with Danny Firkins beaten by his driven shot, as the Oaks began to come into the game.
But Fisher finished the half strongly. Danny Tipple saw a free-kick tipped away by Bailey, and from a corner Adam Wadmore put a header into the side netting at the far post. Fisher finally got a third through Tipple, who set off on a trademark marauding run forward and had the ball fed through to him by Bangura. Tipple’s brilliant finish gave Bailey no chance and it was a happy away dressing room at half time.
Sevenoaks started the second half well and enjoyed a spell of pressure, but they couldn’t make it count as a good chance was put wide and a corner flashed untouched across the face of the goal. Fisher added a fourth goal when Chris Hubbard, on as a substitute, smacked a shot that was too fierce for Bailey to hold. Mabbs pounced on the loose ball to put away the second goal of his dream Fisher debut.
Hubbard had another excellent chance when he was found unmarked in the box after a fine passing move, but this time Bailey pulled off a superb save to keep the ball out. Fisher did add a fifth in the dying moments of the game, and it was perhaps the best of the lot. A move that started with Frankie Warren in the right-back position with his back to goal, swept across the midfield through five or six passes to find Tipple racing forward again. Tipple played in Richie Monan who finished superbly to seal another big win for the Fish.
Fisher also kept a clean sheet for the fourth time in the last five games, only the aberration at Beckenham spoiling what has been an improving performance from a defensive unit that has suffered from the injury curse. The Fish will travel to Erith Town next Saturday in good spirits.
