Lydd Town vs Fisher FC

Lydd Town 1 - 3 Fisher
Saturday 16 September 2017 - 15:00The Lindsey Field, Lydd

Another classic Fisher awayday performance

Fisher sealed three more points and further extend our unbeaten run on Saturday, with a stylish second half display at Lydd Town.

The first half was a rather forgettable 45 minutes for both teams, with neither set of players able to break the deadlock, partially down to over-active offside flags, but also thanks to some truly majestic goalkeeping from Joe Munden in between the posts for Lydd, and a few solid saves from Nic Taylor. Hamill, Adeshina and Facchinetti all saw chances to give the Fish a lead go by without reward.

The first half came to a close as Hailstones started hammering the pitch with the scores somehow still level, with a host of Fisher players left ruing missed opportunities.

The start of the second half saw the rain ease as the Fish went in search of an opener and in the 58th minute, patience and hard work paid off, with a superb delivery from midfield star Harry Draper finding Leonard Goring, who duly, and calmly, fired a powerful shot past the keeper to open the scoring.

An already dangerous Fish formation were helped as Draper was body checked as we attempted to run on to a superb through ball. Lydd captain Ryan Smith, who had already had a bad afternoon, received his second booking and was sent for an early bath (which given the now chilly conditions he was probably grateful for).

Minutes later Aaron Lacy was fouled, and went down holding his head. The referee deemed the challenge to be worthy of a free kick, although Toyo Adeshina was not booked for his role in the incident, a quick chat being enough on this occasion.

Reion McFarlane shone throughout the game at the left of the back line, and did well to control the defence, with Adeshina, Flemming and Agyemang also putting in a good shift at the back.

A powerful shot from substitute Cameron Stevenson was clawed off the line by Munden, but Goring was ready to pounce and nodded home the rebound to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute (although Munden was adamant the ball had not crossed the line).

Lydd pulled one back through top-scorer Gary Lockyer a few minutes later, but the goal failed to spark a comeback. As the Fish launched one final attack, Munden was caught wandering as he attempted a long range clearance under pressure. The ball fell perfectly for Facchinetti who chipped his shot in to an open goal from 30 yards to seal an impressive win against a side who started the afternoon above us in the league table.

Today’s other results mean we move up in to 7th place.
