Fisher gained a confidence building victor in their final home pre-season fixture, beating Isthmian League North Division side Redbridge by a single goal after a competitive contest.
Both sides somewhat nullified each other in the early exchanges although it was the visitors who looked more likely to open the scoring with several good passages of interplay around the Fisher box creating half chances that saw a header skim the outside of the near post and a well struck free kick fly into the side netting, although Sam Amedu in the Fisher goal looked to have both efforts covered. Ath the other end a rasping drive from Teddy Jones flew into the keeper’s mid-rift, when a yard or two either side may have been unstoppable.
Fisher too saw some good passing around the edge of the Redbridge box but couldn’t quite release anyone for a clear cut sight of goal.  Redbridge were denied by a post as again some quick short passing allowed them to find space inside the Fisher area, but a stabbed effort came back off the inside of the post with an assistant’s flag raised for offside in the resulting scramble. Ange Djadja was also forced into a fine last ditch sliding tackle to see the ball out for a corner as a Redbridge forward looked poised to shoot.
Five minutes from the break Fisher took the lead. Good work down the right from Jones and Ngegba forced a corner and Armani-Jordan Martins deep in swinging corner found Ange Djadja stooping to convert at the back post with a diving header which the keeper could not keep out.
The second half saw several substitutions with Joshua Duyile on the right wing and Seb Boyd in midfield both looking strong and keeping Fisher on the front foot, with Duyile putting in several excellent crosses one of which just evaded Teddy Jones at the near post. Jones also saw a half chance come and go as he jinked into the box, but he took one more touch than needed before trying to get his effort away and it was blocked.
More Fisher changes came after the hour mark with Manny Brown making his pre-season debut, keeping the energy high in the midfield.
Redbridge pushed for an equaliser and looked to have found it when a decent cross form the left was headed powerfully back across goal, but Amedu threw himself high to his left to somehow claw the ball away from the top corner. This capped an impressive game form the big keeper whose handling was immaculate throughout taking the pressure off the back line by coming and claiming everything thrown into the box.
On a humid afternoon the heat seemed to take its toll on both sides and the last few minutes produced little more goal mouth action as Fisher saw the game out well, earning their deserved victory.
One final pre-season game awaits as the squad travel to Clapton, with those still need of minutes likely to feature, but today’s performance will have helped manager Ajay Ashanike sort his squad in readiness for the league opener against Punjab United next Saturday.
