A five star Fisher performance under the lights at St Pauls saw them fire in some stunning goals in a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Sutton Athletic.
Mindful of the Challenge Cup Final on the horizon, manager Ajay Ashanike shuffled his pack, with Nader Zedinni and Andres Tobon coming into the starting eleven and minutes off the bench for both Cedric Nganga and Sam Amedu, as they look to be winning their race for fitness in time for the final.
With Sutton one of the more pleasing to the eye footballing sides in the division, this was perfect for Fisher, who in return also popped the ball around in midfield, with both full backs Inesh Sumithran and Conor Darwish getting forward well to join attacks, with both getting early shots on goal.
Fisher almost took the lead on twenty five minutes when Isaac Thompson carried the ball into the box and his powerful shot was somehow tipped up onto the underside of the bar by a miraculous save by Hyde in the Sutton goal, before bouncing away. Minutes later the lively Thompson was denied by the post after following up when Hyde had blocked his initial volley from Michael Sarpong’s neatly chipped free kick.
A goal for Fisher looked likely and duly arrived ten minutes before half time when Thompson controlled a difficult bouncing ball in the box and teed up Lewis Duberry to fire low into the corner from twenty yards out, in what may be the much in demand midfielder’s final game the Fish, as he sits out the rest of the season under suspension.
On the stroke of half time Fisher doubled their lead as Inesh Sumithran found space on the right to fire in a low shot that swerved viciously meaning Hyde could only parry it into the path of Andres Tobon, who gratefully slammed the ball into the empty net.
Taking a two goal lead into the second half it was clear the next goal would determine the game and it only took seven minutes to come and wrapped the game up for Fisher as good work down the right freed Inesh Sumithran, who sent over a curling low cross that found its way through to his opposite fullback Conor Darwish at the back post, where the youngster tapped in his first goal in Fisher colours.
Fisher’s injury curse struck again with Tobon hobbling off on the hour mark, allowing Cedric Nganga to come on for a fine cameo on the wing and with the game in the bag Michael Sarpong was withdrawn with Patrick Hoy getting an outing in midfield. Hoy immediately made an impact, tenaciously winning a ball in midfield and sweeping it out wide to Clyde Semazzi, who given too much space, stepped forward and powered the ball in off the post from fully twenty five yards out to add a fourth.
Fisher almost added fifth when Luke With was denied by a smart reflex save from Hyde and at the other end Sam Amedu pulled of two great smothering saves as Sutton finally found a way into the Fisher area and brought their prolific striker Arlie Desanges into the game.
Fisher added a fifth late on as With picked off a loose ball and despite being felled by a clumsy challenge, the referee capped a very good performance of his own by allowing a well-judged advantage as the ball fell to Cedric Nganga, who carried it into the area before calmly side footing it under Hyde.
There was still time for Amedu to make a further good save from Desanges and then in the added time for Fisher to bring on Jacob Katonia, after several weeks out injured, to make his one hundredth appearance for Fisher, becoming just the fifth player to reach that landmark since the club reformed in 2009 and round off a fine night at St Pauls.
