The bright start to 2022 saw Fisher continue their unbeaten record with no goals yet conceded as they put in a hard-working display to beat neighbours Erith Town 2-0 in front of another large crowd at St Paul’s.

A late change to the line-up saw Temi Oladejo drop out with Michael Sarpong forced to switch to left back and Prince Imoru promoted off the bench into midfield. There was also a starting spot for Khadean Campbell on the wing with Abdoullah Traore dropping to the bench.

Fisher started well with Imoru almost breaking clear and Julio Da Amata, again playing up front, saw a shot comfortable saved after Isaac Thompson had broken down the right. Thompson also created a good chance for himself getting in behind the back line but shot early and high.

A heavy tackle by Pedro De Brito Moco resulted in a yellow card as the game heated up with a number of heavy tackles being allowed by the referee. As the half wore on Erith showed more attacking intent and Tommy Taylor saved well from a Harry Gamble shot, but looked beaten by Ben Wilson’s free kick which struck the outside of the upright in what was the visitors closest effort.

The second half saw Fisher start well and an early scramble in the Erith penalty are saw several attempts at goal blocked and smothered. With both Thompson and Campbell on the wings looking a threat, Fisher started to look the more likely of the sides to break the deadlock and on the hour mark the gal duly arrived. Not for the first tie a cross field ball allowed Thompson to get in behind his full back marker and from his low cross Jacob Katonia arrived into the six yard box to turn the ball home.

Having gone a goal up, Fisher’s chances of gaining the full three points improved further when Jason Goodchild picked up a second yellow card for a very late challenge on Sam Fitzgerald, in front of the Fisher bench. Fisher looked to make the extra man pay and went forward in search of a second to seal the game. Thompson saw a penalty appeal waved away by the referee after going down under a challenge shortly before switching wings to allow the introduction of Abdoullah Traore. The move paid immediate dividends as Thompson cut in from the left hand side slipped the ball across the edge of penalty area where with his first touch of the game Traore swept the ball first time low into the right corner of the goal to double the lead.

Erith looked to get back in to the game and had their best spell of the match having gone two down. Tommy Taylor pulled of a spectacular double save to endure Fisher’s clean sheet was kept intact. The task was made harder than it should however as the game became ten a side when  Pedro De Brito Moco was sent off after being shown a 2nd yellow for a late challenge. Despite losing the man advantage Fisher saw out the game with minimal fuss and kept the unbeaten start to the year going.
