A high energy performance earned ten man Fisher all three points after a 3-2 win over Erith and Belvedere, on a rare Sunday outing, at a wet Park View Road. Courtney Barrington’s early red card saw Fisher play for seventy minutes a player short, but such was the effort and energy of his teammates it hardly showed, with Tom Jones and Flavio Jumo both covering every blade of grass, capping their performances with a deserved goal apiece.
Fisher got off to a blistering start, as Jack Gibbons picked off a loose pass and played a fine through ball into the path of Festos Kamara, who forced the home keeper Charlie Cotrell into a fine save to push his powerful effort over the bar, inside the first ninety seconds. A minute later the game had its first booking as Courtney Barrington tangled legs on halfway, chasing back to track the Deres winger Freddie Baker, and was given a harsh looking yellow card.
The opening goal arrived on twenty minutes. A teasing mazy run from Courtney Barrington saw him glide into the box and he clipped a neat through ball that Flavio Jumo connected with eight yards out to guide it wide of Cottrell, but rather than nestling in the back of the net, it struck the post whereupon it bounced back out and hit a retreating Deres defender as he threw out a leg to attempt to clear but it rolled back into the net. The lead was not to last long however, as three minutes later Jack Gibbons was drawn into a rash tackle just outside the box, earning him a caution. The resulting kick struck the wall and then saw the rebound blocked before the ball fell to Ryan Fowler on the edge of the box, and he drilled it low into the far conner giving Taylor no chance. Minutes later Fisher were rocked further when an innocuous looking jump for the ball saw the referee issue Courtney Barrington a second yellow card and Fisher were down to ten. On thirty five minutes the game seemed to swing away from Fisher as a deep cross found a free head at the back post and with the ball sent back across the goal Danny Lear stole in to nudge it past Taylor.
Many a side could have folded at this point, but Fisher rolled up their sleeves and set about getting themselves back in the game. Five minutes before the break they achieved just that when a surging run from Gibbons saw him nudge the ball down the left channel of the area and Flavio Jumo raced onto the pass to drill the ball beyond Cotrell into the far corner, to send the sides into the half time break level at two apiece. The second half saw Fisher immediately on the attack and helped by playing down the slope they ignored their depleted numbers to take the game to their hosts and were rewarded inside three minutes as Rafael Garcia cut off the left to feed Tom Jones and the midfield showed neat feet to create an inch of space to allow him to shoot powerfully, left footed, across the goal into the far corner and put Fisher back in front.
The expected Erith and Belvedere onslaught never materialised as Fisher grew more confident in holding onto their lead, with Gibbons and Conor Darwish excelling in the full back roles in keeping the hosts pacy wingers quiet and centre backs Jola Lahan and Ange Djadja commanding over everything thrown into the box. It was in fact Fisher who looked the more likely to add to the score with Festos Kamara running onto debutant substitute, David Mata’s neat through ball to smash the ball onto the underside to the bar and Tom Jones seeing his vicious curling corner clip a home head and onto the backup right before being cleared away. Cottrell then pulled of a fine low save to keep out another Kamara effort. Fisher’s only real alarm at the other end came when a well delivered corner was headed wide. Tommy Taylor judged his angles well to force a couple of efforts from balls slipped down the right channel to sweep harmlessly wide of the goal and the Herculean efforts of Jones and Jumo in the centre of park saw Fisher continually winning second balls and relieving the pressure on the back four allowing them to see out the added five minutes with little concern and gain three hard earned points.
