Match Preview – Erith Town v Fisher, Friday Night Football

This evening the Fish travel to Erith Town’s current home at Oakwood for some Friday Night Football, though we can’t seem to find out which satellite channel are responsible for moving the fixture, or where our TV money for the game is…

The Dockers have had a tough start to the season, currently sitting bottom of the table on one point, having shipped 15 goals in 4 games. Joint bossesĀ Ian Jenkins and Ricky Bennett will be looking for their side to bounce back from their result last weekend, having lost 6-0 away to current leaders Croydon (with one goal coming from former Fish Rob Curtis). Erith Town started the league campaign with a 4-1 defeat away at Lordswood, before back-to-back home games saw a point picked up in a 2-2 draw with Tunbridge Wells followed by a 2-3 defeat against Ashford United. Alongside their SCEFL fixtures there have been 3 FA Cup games, with a 2-2 at home to Sutton Common Rovers leading to a 2-0 win in the replay, before exiting the competition in a 1-0 loss at Ramsgate.

Last season Erith Town finised 13th, 6 points ahead of Fisher. We had very contrasting results in the two games last season, with a 2-0 win (goals from Bent and Bugden) for the Fish away which saw 4 players sent off in the first half (3 for the Dockers and Joe Jackson for the Fish) and a 0-5 loss at Champion Hill.

Amidst their slow start to the season Lee Friend has stood out so far, with 3 goals in all competitions seeing him leading the line well for the Dockers. Defender Bradley Simms has also pitched in with a goal, so Abbo’s side will need to make sure he is putting in more effort defending the Erith goal than causing havoc at the other end.

Erith Town’s first team are playing home games at Oakwood, the home of Ryman side VCD Athletic. The ground is about a 20 minute walk from Crayford station, or take the 492 from Crayford to Old Road Perry Street.
