Match Preview – Fisher v Deal Town

After two confidence building cup wins at St Paul’s, we return to SCEFL Premier Division action tomorrow with a real six-pointer as we welcome fellow strugglers Deal Town. The Hoops currently sit just two points ahead of the Fish in the table in 19th, so a win on Saturday will lift us off the foot of the table. Abbo will be looking for Fisher to continue the free-flowing football that has seen 9 goals in the last two wins, whilst tightening up the leaky backline that has seen so many points dropped in the League.

Derek Hares’ Deal Town side have had a similarly frustrating start to the season as we have, with 2 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats in the league. Deal have also been in cup action for their last two games, winning 4-1 at home to Holmesdale in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy last weekend, and going out of the Macron SCEFL Challenge Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Cray Valley PM. In the league The Hoops’ last five reads as 3 defeats and 2 draws, shipping 16 goals in the process.

This season Deal’s goals mainly seem to have been coming from the back, with right back/midfielder Joe Reeves top scoring with 5, with centre back Dean Hill on 4. Last season’s top scorer for The Hoops with 21 goals, forward Connor Coyne, has 3 to his name this campaign and will still be a potent threat.

Last season Deal Town finished 13 points ahead of the Fish in 9th, winning both encounters between the two sides. A 4-1 at Charles Sports Ground early in the season saw Rob Curtis sent off and a Fisher goal from Shelton Gooden, with a 1-3 defeat at Champion Hill.

As has previously been announced, this Saturday is Fisher Community Day, with the club preparing for a great crowd at St Paul’s to celebrate the great work that goes on in our local area. We will be joined by a number of local primary schools, holding a supporter shoot-out at half time, collecting for Southwark Foodbank, giving Non-League Dogs stickers out to any 4 legged fans and welcoming artists from DIY Space for London who will be on hand to discuss their collective workspace. If that isn’t enough we are also giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy the game with a friend, with a special offer of £10 for two adults; bring a friend with you and introduce them to Fisher!

Turnstiles will be open from the earlier time of 1.30pm, with the Clubhouse open for hot drinks (including the hugely popular new additions of Hot Chocolate and Bovril), soup, soft drinks and snacks. We are delighted to confirm that the Clubhouse Bar will be serving locally brewed Fourpure Brewing Co. beers once again, with their Pils Lager, American Pale and Session IPA all available at just £3 a can.

The Fisher Super Draw will be back with the chance to win £25 and you can get involved as a Member for just £10. Programmes will be available for £1.50. The Fisher Club Shop will be open in the Clubhouse with some last bits of old memorabilia including match posters, programmes and badges; you will also be able to pre-order the new Fisher Scarf for just £8 to ensure your neck is both warm and stylish this winter!
