Match Preview – Fisher v Erith Town, followed by End of Season Awards

This weekend see’s the curtain come down on the SCEFL Premier Division season, and unfortunately so does Fisher’s stay in the division, for now. Following our run of defeats against the Top 3 over the last few weeks and results going against us, last weekend saw relegation confirmed as today’s visitors snatched a vital win away at Rochester United to secure their safety. That doesn’t mean that today’s game is a foregone conclusion by any stretch, with the chance to escape the bottom of the table open to the Fish with a win, as well as pride for players, club officials and supporters alike.

Ian Jenkins & Ricky Bennett’s side dug out a result when they needed it most last weekend at Rochester, having lost their previous five games – shipping 17 goals in the process which saw The Dockers slide into the relegation equation. Last time we met it was a 2-3 win for The Fish at Oakwood in September, with Joel Mensah, Trey Williams and Scott Wason scoring the goals in what proved to be the only league win during Gary Abbott’s leadership.

Jack Mahon is Erith’s top scorer this season with 13 goals in all competitions, including one a couple of weeks ago as The Dockers were turned over at home by Sevenoaks Town 1-3. Michael McKenna is on 5 for the campaign, whilst Olakunle Giwa brought himself to 4 for the season with a goal at Rochester last weekend.

With this game being our last of the season, it gives our magnificent fans one last chance for 2016/17 to get behind The Fish. Gaffer Dean Harrison has gone on record this week to thank the fans for their incredible support, something which has kept the team and the club going throughout a difficult season. Thank you to all of the Fisher Faithful for their vocal, witty and passionate support – you are the people who make this club what it is, and we look forward to sharing one last Saturday afternoon with you for this season.

Turnstiles will be open from around 1.45pm as usual for a 3pm kick off. As previously announced, the Club are delighted to confirm the extension of our ‘Fish for a Fiver’ offer for Premier League and Football League season ticket holders until the end of the 2016/17 campaign, so it is only £5 on the turnstile on production of a season ticket. The Clubhouse will be open for hot drinks, soup, noodles, soft drinks and snacks. Beers will come from local brewery Fourpure Brewing Co. as ever, alongside a few guest beers for the day.

The Fisher Super Draw will be back with the chance to win £25, and our ever popular Matchday Programme will be available for £1.50. The Fisher Club Shop will be open in the Clubhouse as ever.

Following the conclusion of today’s match we will all be decamping to The Old Salt Quay just around the corner from St Paul’s for our End of Season Awards from 6pm, where we invite all of the Fisher Family to come together to thank the players and Management for their non-stop commitment to the Fish this season. Look forward to seeing you there.
