Match preview: SC Thamesmead v Fisher

It’s another short trip along the ‘dirty old ‘river’ as we return to league action against local rivals Thamesmead. The rash of recent cup games has been a bit disruption to Fisher’s flow in focusing on gaining promotion to the Premier division, but with a magnificent home win against Snodland Town on October 28th – a beautiful display of commitment and teamwork that paid dividends with 3 blistering goals and a clean sheet, it put us firmly back on the league promotion trail.

It was a shame then that another cup tie the following week once again stopped the momentum – this time without us kicking a ball. Fisher got a bye against Barking in the London Senior Trophy which meant the players received a hard earned rest but also meant we wouldn’t be playing a competitive game for two weeks.

Whether this will have an impact on today’s game with Thamesmead remains to be seen. It terms of injuries, which has dogged a lot of the team choices in recent weeks, it looks like there we are back to a full strength squad, which can only boost the confidence of the players. When the team’s confidence is up they are unbeatable.

Fisher come into this game sitting mid-table and sharing 20 points with today’s opponents, which will make for a tight game as both sides fight for the three points on offer and a chance to climb further up the table. As ever with these games it will be down to who wants it more.
