Tails wagging at Fisher FC after successful London Non League Dogs Day

Everybody at Fisher FC was delighted to see so many four-legged supporters bound their way through the St Paul’s turnstiles for London Non League Dogs Day on Saturday. How apt was it that our visitors Erith & Belvedere let the lead slip through their fingers as the Fish grabbed a late equaliser? I think AJ will be hard-pressed to give a more left-field post-game team talk than “OK now we need to have a team photo with some dogs” – it was great to get the snap of our extended squad, with Josh Adejokun looking particularly tickled by the situation. Dogs in the team photo (from left to right) are Rolo, Teddy, Gizmo, Pie, Peggy, Waffles, Vinnie and Lottie.

We had a healthy total of 10 dogs dragging their owners along, with many others coming to make some four-legged friends and grab some goodies from our raffle. Of course a number of these pooches were from the Greater London area, with the very vocal whippet Rolo particularly enjoying himself, while local lass Lottie came up trumps on the fashion stakes with a well-appointed black and white striped bandana. It was also amazing to see ‘Willow the Wader’ who had come all the way from Biggleswade and was representing his hometown team with a green and white striped coat, plus local celebrity dog Burly Bear (friends with the likes of Daniel Radcliffe).

It was also a privilege to have Ruth who runs the Non League Dogs Twitter and Instagram account in the ground for the day. She very kindly brought a sack of toys so each dog could enjoy an early Christmas present, and also shared some badges and stickers with Jim and George on the merch stand – they should have some left to hand out at this weekend’s match against Deal Town if you missed out. A big thanks to Ruth from all at Fisher, as there were a few people who had read about the game on your social media feeds.

Fisher regular Jimmy scooped first prize in the big half time raffle and took home two tickets for a dog-friendly cinema screening at Greenwich Picturehouse, while young Oliver was delighted to take home the second-placed hamper including goodies from Holly & Lil. Thanks again to match sponsor PAAW House – it was great to welcome Gabby and Vinnie down for their first visit to St Paul’s and we know they plan to come back to support their local team again soon. Thanks also to dog-loving consultancy for creative agencies The Agency Works for acting as match ball sponsor.

Burly Bear and Vinnie

It was great to see people talking making a return visit, both at the game and online afterwards, as we would love to grow our supporting pack. We are a volunteer-run club that is owned by the fans and sits at the heart of its local community – and as you will have seen on Saturday, we are a very welcoming, positive bunch. And dogs are always welcomed on the terraces at Fisher FC with open arms! We hope to see you again soon.
