Fisher capped off their pre-season campaign with a resounding victory over SCEFL 1 side Forest Hill Park in an 11th hour friendly played at Bishops Justus School.

The Fish were dominant throughout but Forest Hill had the first chance with Cristian Portarescu bringing down Alvin Turyatemba on the edge of the area for a free kick in a good position which was harmlessly sent wide of Tommy Taylor’s left hand upright.

Fisher’s first big chance came when Dennis Asante superbly sprung the offside trap and found himself in 1 on 1 with the keeper, he fired at the man in goal but what he hasn’t seen was the on rushing Victor Van Doleweerd to his left who’d made his way into the area unmarked. A huge let off for Forest Hill.

Lee Weemes was next to test the keeper with Malaki Coker’s quick throw being flicked on by the alert Asante into the path of Weemes who forced a great save down to the keepers right.
The Fish did go ahead soon after on 23 minutes, good work eventually saw the ball worked to Malaki Coker who rattled the inside of the right hand post. The ball then found its way back out to the left hand edge of the area and Van Doleweerd did the honours and duly curled in low and past the keeper for 1-0.

The next attack bought the next goal with a long ball into the channel finding Malaki Coker, he twisted and turned and held off his much bigger marker superbly before swivelling and sending the ball into the 6 yard box where it was flicked home by Weemes in true poacher style.

Fisher’s 3rd came when they were awarded a 38th minute spot kick when good interplay between a Trialist and Michael Sarpong allowed the latter to slip in the lively Asante whose cross was met by an outstretched arm. Referee Jordan Whitworth pointed straight to the spot.
Lee Weemes stepped up and expertly sent the keeper the wrong way and popped the ball into the corner for 3-0.

HT 3-0

Fisher picked up where they left off after the break, substitute Jack Gibbons cut to the byline and smashed towards goal only to find a body in the way on the line. A good 10 seconds of pinball ensued with Weemes also having an effort blocked in the melee before the ball was hooked clear.

Christian Udo on as a sub got on the end of a superb ball. He did the hard bit and sat the keeper down but frustratingly his chip was stopped by the keepers glove. Luckily, Van Doleweerd (Now playing up top) was there to smash home on the rebound into the roof of the net for 4-0.

Fisher were into their rhythm and Udo again found himself 1 on 1 after a lapse in concentration by one of the Forest Hill centre halves and the keeper again foiled him – standing tall and denying him with his left leg sending the ball out for a throw.

Fisher continued to press and the 5th arrived on 70 minutes. Luke With making an instant impact and meeting Jack Gibbons superb corner from the left with a cushioned header that went in off the post!

Udo was again foiled with the last notable chance of the game – a lovely run and cross from Michael Sarpong down the right being met by Udo whose volley found the crossbar via a deflection. On another day he’d have had a hat trick (Saturday, perhaps?)

FT 5-0

A superb team performance from Fisher who really put in a good shift ahead of Saturday’s visit of SCEFL Premier new boys Rusthall who’ll pose a stern test.

MOTM: Lee Weemes (Fisher) 2 goals and a good presence up top – him and Asante really were a handful.
