AWAYDAYS: Canterbury City v Fisher – Sat 29 Jan 22

Can we make January 2022 a month to remember? We’ve yet to lose a game or concede a goal this year so we’re looking to extend our winning-streak-and-clean-sheet run as we travel down to Kent this weekend to take on Canterbury City. Plus we’re still aiming for that FISHER50 – 50 supporters coming with us on a regular basis to away games by the end of the season.

And as the last away game against Hollands & Blair showed – a set of noisy travelling fans can make all the difference, added to that there’s always an element of adventure to awaydays – visiting new grounds, meeting opposition fans for a healthy and civilised exchange of views about the various merits of our respective teams – it’s what non-league is all about! And if we can come back with a result… all the better!

HOW TO GET THERE
Canterbury City play their home games at Faversham FC’s Aquatherm Stadium situated between Canterbury and the Medway towns just north of the Kent Downs. The ground itself is just outside Faversham town centre with easy access by train and car.

CAR
If you are coming by car from London it is practically a straight road down to the ground. Take the A2 out of London to Strood then straight through on to the M2. Turn off at Junction 6 and go left on the A521 (Ashford Road) towards Faversham. Then it’s a right at the end of the road onto Canterbury Road and right again into Salters Lane (which is a narrow country road), the entrance to ground will be on your left.

TRAIN
Trains take about 1h 15m from London to Faversham station with no changes. Cheapest advance ticket is £17.10 return (though limited availability), cheapest day return is £25.30 and trains are every half hour. Check here for times and ticket purchases: https://www.thetrainline.com/

From the station it’s just over half a mile walk to the ground. The 666 bus will take you from the station half way to the ground – you will need to get off at Canterbury Road and walk the rest of the way. There is a taxi rank outside the station.

THE FORM
Canterbury sit just below us in the league although they are trailing 5 points behind. They took a battering against Deal Town away mid-week so they will certainly want to make amends this weekend in front of their home crowd. It’s also the first home game for their new management team. As we all know this has been a great month for us results-wise, unbeaten and without conceding a goal. And in terms of performance we are just getting better and better with each unbeaten game. Can we make it four on the trot? Only one way to find out…
