AWAYDAYS: Bearsted v Fisher – Saturday 9th April

Tuesday’s game at Tunbridge Wells is a prime example why we love Awaydays and why we travel with the Fish. A chilly evening kick-off, long journey down into deepest Kent with no expectations, nothing to lose, with the hope we don’t lose, at best we go knowing the players have at least some support on the terraces. Turns into one of the most glorious matches we got to witness throughout the season. An absolute masterclass, against tough opposition, 90 minutes of pure joy. It’s moments like that that make it all worthwhile. It’s what football is all about and we do it all again this saturday away to Bearsted.

HOW TO GET THERE
The Bears play their home games at Otham Sports Ground which is located in the picturesque countryside just south east of the town of Maidstone and south of the Kent Downs. It’s very much country roads and farmland territory.

CAR
Easiest way is to follow the signs out fo south london to Maidstone. From Junction 6 of the M20 drive into Maidstone town centre and through onto the A20 Ashford Road then left onto Willington Street and carry on to the crown of the road and turn left into Derinwood Road, carry on past parade of shops on left hand side and turn right into Church Road. Carry on until reaching the left hand turn of White Horse Lane. Ground entrance is on the right hand side past the new housing estate.

TRAIN
Closest station to the ground is Bearsted. Cheapest fare from London is £21.60 – Super Off-Peak Day Return, (only valid at specific off-peak times of the day) and the journey time is just over 1hr  with no changes. Check here for times and ticket purchases: https://www.thetrainline.com/

From the station it’s a long 2.75 mile walk to the ground. Recommended taxi service is https://www.expresscabs.co.uk/ who operate out of Maidstone and have an online booking service.

BUSES
Buses from maidstone own centre are 12 (which goes passed the south end of Willington Street – 15 minute walk to the ground) but it’s only hourly, 4 finishes at Downsood where it’s a 15 minute walk to the ground

THE FORM
After tuesday’s magic night anything is possible for this current Fish side. We’ve scored 6 goals in the last two games and frankly look confident and assured against any opposition. Bearsted sit 3 places above us in the league with a nine point gap between us. That said they have lost their last five games in a row. This kind of form then makes for another exciting day out down in Kent
