Match Preview – Fisher v Ashford United

It’s a top against bottom clash at St Paul’s tomorrow as we welcome pace setters Ashford United, in their ever suggestive kit. Both sides are looking to re-build after cup defeats last time out, Ashford going out of the FA Vase last weekend whilst the Fish departed the Macron SCEFL Challenge Cup midweek after a captivating encounter with Sheppey United.

Boss Danny Lye has the Nuts & Bolts playing some great football this season, leading the SCEFL Premier Division by just one point from our midweek visitors Sheppey and early leaders AFC Croydon. Ashford have won 4, lost 1 over their last five in the league; the standout result of that win was an eight goal demolition of Rochester United on their travels.

Last year’s top scorer has Shaun Welford already has 11 goals to his name this season, with the former Margate, Maidstone United & Cray Wanderers front man the clear focal point of Ashford’s attack. Rory Hill has netted 9 times in all competitions too.

The 2015/16 season saw Ashford United finish 3rd, having turned the Fish over in both encounters. It was 2-1 at Homelands, Hysi getting the Fisher goal after Rob Curtis had seen red, with a 1-4 result at Champion Hill, Will Agbo getting the consolation.

Turnstiles will be open from around 1.45pm as usual on Saturday. The Clubhouse will be open for hot drinks (now with Hot Chocolate and Bovril), soup, noodles, soft drinks and snacks. Unfortunately due to a licensing issue there will not be any alcohol available this weekend, but the bar will be back in action in time for the Glebe fixture.

The Fisher Super Draw will be back with the chance to win £25, and our ever popular Matchday Programme will be available for £1.50. The Fisher Club Shop will be open in the Clubhouse with some exciting new ranges – including our new Mugs and Enamel Badges, and the must have fashion accessory for winter – the new Fisher Scarf!
