South London Derby. Three words to excite the imagination of any self-respecting Fisher fan. Not only do we have two of them this week, they’re both against the same club! We get to play FHP away this wednesday in the league and then again on saturday at home in the quarter finals of the London Senior Trophy.
To say this is going to be an interesting week of football is an understatement. FHP came to St Paul’s in October last year and in front of the biggest crowd we’ve had for a home game since moving back to Rotherhithe, they proceeded to take the 3 points off us against the run of play. It’s fair to say that game was a major turning point in the season – a shock to the system which was just what we needed – since then we’ve won all our league matches until last saturday.
FHP in the meantime have slipped further down the table struggling in the lower reaches to maintain a consistent form. They’ve only won two games at home all season and one of them was against bottom of the table Crockenhill last week.
On paper then the Fish are by far the stronger side, a more stable and solid proposition – and our away stats still make impressive reading, so it should be a case of keeping our composure and getting the job done.
The game is just down the road so there’s no excuse not to attend, we’d love to see as many of the Fisher faithful down as we get for a home game.
